OPEN CALL SUBMISSIONS — Fiction War Magazine features previously unpublished Short/Flash Fiction works between 500-1000 words. In addition to our seasonal Fiction War writing competitions, we have a rolling Open Call for Submissions — Open Call authors will be paid a $100 honorarium for featured stories.
•Open Call submissions have No Prompt, No Deadline, No Time Limit.
•Open Call submissions are considered entirely separate from seasonal competitions.

•Open Call response time can be six months or longer. Please be patient. If you have not heard from us after six months, you can email us at fictionwarmag@gmail.com. “Submission Query” should be the subject line.
•We DO accept simultaneous Open Call submissions. Please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere and withdraw your submission via Submittable.
•We DO accept multiple submissions. Submit seperately for each story.
•As an independent journal, nominal submission fees help cover basic administrative costs — a significant portion goes directly to Submittable.

3-DAY FICTION WARS — Fiction Wars are international seasonal writing competitions, known individually as 3-Day Fiction Wars. Compete with writers from around the world — selected stories to be published within FICTION WAR MAGAZINE. Visit fictionwar.com for competition rules, deadlines, and entry details.

ATOM BOMB PRIZE — ATOM BOMB is an annual review of one-hundred-word stories (100 words or fewer) from around the world, awarding $5,000 divided into two individual $2,500 prizes, one for LIGHT and one for DARK. Reviews will close once 1,000 entrants have submitted. Shortlisted works will be announced periodically and offered publication. Two stories from the combined shortlists will win cash awards. Current Atom Bomb theme: LIGHT vs DARK. Adherence to either theme is at author's discretion and need not be indicated. Visit fictionwar.com for competition rules. Fiction War Magazine's target audience is anyone who reads literary or mainstream fiction. If your work tends toward genre(s) e.g., Fantasy, Historical, Horror, Mystery, Science, Slipstream, Thriller, etc., wonderful – tell that badass story.

•Do not submit excerpts from longer stories. Flash fiction should be a complete story.

•Do not submit erotica, gore, or fan fiction.
•We only consider unpublished work. Please do not submit anything that has been published anywhere online or in print, e.g., blogs, Facebook, chap books…

•We only accept submissions online through Submittable.
•We are unable to provide feedback or critiques.
•Include author information in the cover letter ONLY — please be sure of spelling and make double first names or double last names clear (if you use three or more names, please indicate which you use as your last). Do OMIT all author information, e.g., name, email, etc. from the body of the work, headers, and file name.

•All submissions should be pasted into the submission form. Character/paragraph styles may not be retained.
•Any non-default formatting should be indicated with tags, e.g., <i> italics </i>.

Full publishing copyrights are retained by the author of the original work. By submitting, author agrees to grant and guarantee Wolvesburrow Productions full and complete editorial control, first publishing rights, and continuing, non-exclusive rights to reproduce the submitted/featured work and its editorial revisions as part of the specified anthologies, including, but not limited to online, ebook, and print. For works not selected for publishing, all rights are solely held by the author. Following first publishing, if the author republishes the work elsewhere, we ask that you please indicate as First Published in Fiction War Magazine.

***ALL WORKS published in Fiction War Magazine must meet our judges/editors approval. If you are unwilling to subject your writing to possible significant corrections/alterations to suit this publication, please do not submit.

Authors will receive an advance version of what we intend to print.

Fiction War Magazine is not presuming to create canonical texts — as warranted, any changes are intended solely for our exclusive publication/edition. Following initial release, authors can publish edited or unedited versions freely at their discretion.

There may be additional instructions during the submission process. Please take care to follow them so that your submission is acceptable.
